Off To a Great Start

Well the first two days are done and they were all in all pretty good. The class I am subbing for is a great group of kids. I actually only have 14 right now, I'm supposed to have 18, but 4 have not shown up yet. Jacob loved his first day of school. After Kevin gave him a father's blessing Sunday night I was a little teary eyed thinking about how big Jacob is getting. He was like "oh mom don't cry." I wasn't crying just a little tear or two. I think it is going to be a great year and I am looking forward to all it has to offer.

OK so it is 8:30 and Jacob has been in bed for about 15 minutes, yeah! Since school is starting we thought we should start getting him to bed early. I had planned on starting about a week ago but it never seemed to work out so two nights before school starts is going to have to work. How is it that my baby is starting second grade, am I old enough to have a second grader? Last night was Sneek Peek at school. I got to meet all the kiddos that I will have for the first 2 and a half weeks of school. I'm really excited it seems like a great group of kids. Jacob is excited about 2nd grade and he has the BEST 2nd grade teacher ever! I spent a lot of the day today cleaning house and doing laundry life is going to be so busy starting Monday I figured it might be a good idea to have a clean house with all the laundry put away, that makes me so happy. Can I just say that I hate laundry! I can put it in the washer all day even switch it to the drier but the putting away and folding is the pits! I have to switch topics and tell you that I have an amazing friend named Courtney!!! I asked her if she would help me pick out new glasses (because she has really good taste) so on Thursday morning at 10 am she met me at the mall to pick them out, all 4 of her cute kids in tow, she is so sweet. I have to say I think we did a good job choosing, the lady at Eyemasters told me they were fun but professional. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I'm like those are way cute then sometimes I'm like uh oh did I buy the right ones. I think that I am really liking them more it is nice to have something different. I will post a picture later. Another topic switch...I have a friend that was just diagnosed with breast cancer and she is only 26! I could not believe it! She is younger then me, I thought you had to be like over 40 to get breast cancer. I knew that some people got it young, but 26! It is definitely a reminder to do your monthly breast exam, I don't do one, but I will now. I can't imagine how she is feeling. I was telling a friend today that I think Heavenly Father really knows what trials we can handle. I was like would I want what happened to me or what happened to her. I don't know if I could go through what she is going to have to go through. I think about other friends and their trials and I don't think I would want what they have gone through either. Does this make sense? Basically what I am trying to say is that I truly believe that we are given what we can endure through. Thanks for reading my ramblings. I'm off to fold laundry while watching the Olympics.

Summer Ball Is Over

Last night was Jacob's last game of summer baseball. It has been a lot of fun! Fall ball starts in just a few weeks so we don't get much of a break. Between fall and spring there is a few month break so that will be nice. After the game we all went to Buck N Loons for dinner and some fun.

Here are some pictures from the jumping place yesterday. Kevin was the only dad there so he quickly became a bucking bronco and the designated one to play with all the kids. He had just as much fun as them. It only costs $7 for kids and the parents are free. Great right? Well not so great because Kevin broke his glasses so that $7 turned into about $200. Kevin really needed new glasses anyway, but still. I went on a few of the things, I'm really getting old! Jacob kicked my trash every time we raced through an obstacle course. He kept wanting me to race him I guess he figured it was an easy win. I can't believe there are only a few more days of summer. Hopefully the rain goes away and on Friday we can hang out at the pool, I am loving the rain though. Time to go and watch the Olympics. I have really enjoyed watching it all, good thing we have DVR! How did I ever live without it? It is so funny because Jacob thinks that everybody has a TV that pauses, rewinds and records. He has no idea that we had to actually get up when we were kids and change the knob on the TV to change the channel. It was not until I was in about 5th grade did we have a remote control TV. We didn't have the internet when we were kids now my son at 7 tells me to just look stuff up on the internet. I remember doing reports for school and having to look it all up in the encyclopedia (I remember learning that spelling word in the 4th grade that and solar system, I was so proud of myself...sorry a little trip down memory lane) and check out books from the library, whatever not anymore. I am thankful for technology, I don't know how people worked out with Walkmans and not ipods!

Can I just say that I love the rain that we are having. It does kind of stink that it is the last week of the summer and we can't go to the pool, but we really needed some rain around here. It is only supposed to be like 76 degrees today which sounds fabulous to me! We are heading out to Ft. Worth to go to a jump house warehouse. It is filled with all different types of jump houses, slides, and obstacle courses. Today is Kev's day off so he gets to go with us, Jacob is so excited but I think Kevin is just as excited to jump around on all the stuff. It should make for a fun day.

Can I Get A Woo Hoo?

Friday was girls night out, can I get a woo hoo? I love girls night out! This time we went to BJ's Restaurant. We ate there in California and I didn't realize there was one here. They have the best deep dish pizza I have ever eaten. There ended up being 13 of us which makes for a lot of good conversation. The restaurant has several TV's around with sports on. The Olympics were on and Michael Phelps was swimming. Everyone was watching and then cheered when he won. It was so neat to watch it with so many people and to have everyone get so excited.

OK so many of you know (mostly the ones who live here) that I have been needing new people called to Primary. I was about to go on strike and tell the Bishop that he had to run Primary for a few weeks. OK we all know that I would never do that but it was really hard being short so many people. Well today everything got filled and then some and now I have an extra teacher! I'm so excited that I can't stand it. My 2nd counselor moved this week, so sad, and they already called me a new counselor. She is going to do a fabulous job!!! It was definitely a great Sunday.

OK so many of you also might know (again probably the ones that live here) that we started Clomid this month, can I get another woo hoo? We found out Friday that the medication is doing what it is supposed to be doing. We don't know if we are pregnant yet, but at least the medicine worked. If it didn't we would have had to double the dose and wait another month and see if it worked then. Anyway, I was way excited. So you may be asking yourself what does that mean that it worked, well it means I ovulated. I've never been so excited to ovulate before in my life! I'm really excited and hope that we will be sharing news of pregnancy in the next few months. So I'm going to share a frustration with you all. I often hear friends or people around me talk about breastfeeding or middle of the night wake up calls or siblings fighting or all the other stuff that happens with babies or multiple children. I would give anything to have those things happening in my life. I would gladly welcome the cry of a baby in my home even if it was at 2 am, or the pain or sickness of being pregnant. I would give anything to see the smile on Jacob's face as he holds his baby brother or sister for the first time. I don't write this to be like oh poor me because I am extremely blessed to have the two children I do and to have such a wonderful husband and a wonderful life. Just take a few minutes to remember how truly blessed you are to have what you do.

On a lighter note... our ant situation is much better. They do seem to have migrated to the bathrooms though. There are definitely not as many. I think I'm going to call them to come back this week and put the gel stuff they use in the bathrooms. But compared to what it was like before I would say it is 95% better. Why does there have to be so many ants in this world? What are there purpose anyway?

Last Week

Here are a few pictures from last week. Once a year we have Kid Day at our house. This was the second year we did it. Basically Jacob gets to do whatever he wants that day and gets breakfast in bed. He thinks it is really cool. He chose to go to Chuckie Cheese with his friend. They had a lot of fun. On Thursday we decided to get crafty and we made homemade clay and painted pictures. Last week Jacob had 3 games because they had 1 make up game. He was exhausted by the end of it all. Friday we discovered he had strep throat. The doctor gave him a shot in his bum (which did not feel good) and by Sunday he was feeling better. We have been watching a lot of the Olympics this weekend, I love it! The opening ceremony was amazing. I watched the USA men's relay swimming team beat France last night, which they were not supposed to do. I've watched it about 3 times and every time I get so excited! Also last week Jacob's school called and asked me to sub the first 2 and a half weeks of school. One of the 3rd grade teachers will be out on maternity leave. I'm excited to do it! I was telling Kevin earlier that day that it feels weird that school is starting and I'm not doing anything. Last year I started the year out subbing long term and I ended the year doing long term. It should be pretty easy. The teacher is very organized and will have everything together. I can't believe that my baby will be a second grader! It is crazy! I love his teacher and I'm excited for a new school year to start.

I love me some IKEA!

Yesterday Hilary, Courtney, Suzy, Brittany, and I ventured to IKEA. Pretty much one of the coolest stores ever. It was a 6 hour excursion. After dropping all of our kiddos at Courts (all 10 of them) we headed out. We had two great young women babysit. It takes a hour to get there it was fun chatting with the girls, never a dull moment. Brittany met us there because she is a loser and lives in Frisco. We shopped for about 3 hours which also included lunch at the IKEA restaurant. After IKEA we headed to Sheridan's Frozen Custard for a yummy concrete. After that we had to say bye to Britt and the rest of us headed home. I love shopping with my friends with no kids, it's the best! Of course I had to take pictures to blog about.

OK, the fact that they have to put "For Display Purposes Only Please" on a toilet in the middle of a store is sad. I would hope that nobody would actually try to use it. I guess when you gotta go you gotta go. Suzy looking oh so sexy.

Just Call Me Holly

Holly Homemaker that is! I have spent the last 5 hours, ya that's right 5 hours, canning spiced peaches with my mom. She has been canning all week and telling me how I should be canning too. Honestly I had no desire. Well Kevin stopped by my mom's house while she was canning and thought that canning peaches for us was a great idea. So here I am today canning. Actually it was not too bad and I learned a new skill. I only did it because I love my husband and I know how much he wanted me to do it. All that said though I'm glad I did it and we will be canning pears next month.

Go Away You Nasty Sugar Ants!!!

OK I know I live in Texas and there are A LOT of ants here. But seriously do they have to hang out in my kitchen? Luckily they are little sugar ants and I can kill them easily but stay outside leave me and my food alone. So a couple of days ago I was eating a bowl of Honey Bunches of O's (that I got for a $1 coupon shopping!!!) and I look down and I see an ant on my bowl. I brush it off and then look into my bowl and see two more ants and I tell Kevin that it I'm calling the bug guy back out. I go into the kitchen and get the box of cereal out and pull the bag out and it was filled with ants!!! Yuck!!! I totally ate who knows how many ants. Kevin assures me that I will be OK. The bug guy came yesterday and put a special jell around certain spots in the kitchen and the attic. He assures me that this will make them go away. I like to think that I keep a pretty clean kitchen and I make sure that all of the food is wrapped up tightly so the fact that I have these ants drive me crazy. Hopefully they will go away soon!!!

In other news my cute husband got General Manager of the quarter at his meeting yesterday. This is out of all the managers in the Ft. Worth area, GO KEVIN!!!

Jacob is loving playing baseball this summer. His team is awesome and has won all of their games. I love watching them play and watching them all have so much fun.
